Brett Lorins

Thank you for visiting the Website for Brett Lorins. This site is a compilation of over fifteen years of my work in the Lighting, Video, and Special FX production world. Without being aware of it, and just by growing up in New York, I was introduced to my love of production very early in my life. As a kid I started going (i.e. getting dragged), to broadway shows often with my family, and slowly began to gain a real appreciation for the theater and it's ability to transport its viewers to another world, if even for a short period of time. As I got older and began to dabble in theater production in summer camp and than later in college I started to have a real affinity for all things visual, and to be able to help in trying to create other worlds or atmospheres for others to get lost in. While in college I began to meld my love for psychology with my love for lighting. I learned from anyone I could and spent all my free time learning as much as possible about the art and tech of lighting design, and the nature and nuance of things such as color theory, memory and emotion. I spent 10 years as both a social worker and local lighting technican and club lighting designer and operator gaining more understanding of lighting and design theory while learning more about the programming and playback of consoles. When I felt comfortable I quit Social Work and committed myself to having a full time go at my passion. I spent many years taking various positions in the lighting world such as rental manager for a regional lighting supply company to a warehouse manager and LD for a multi-purpose production house who did themed parties, corporate meeting, weddings, and many other events. After a few years of that I was getting bored and took a job as an LD on a cruise line, though it was not for me, I came back after my 6 month contract with renewed vigor and was able to get a job as the LD for a local concert venue. After two successful years there and a fateful meeting with, whom I now consider, my mentor, I was soon offered my first touring gig. The rest, as they say, is history. I continue to be in awe of this field and the amazing things we can accomplish. I have, and always will continue to strive to learn and undertsand the most current technology and how we can use it to our benefit with in our industry to provide people with experiences they won't forget.
